What is the fastest way to get traffic to my new website, that has been the question that I have received from so many small business owners in several different niches. There are website promotion experts that have told their clients that the first thing they should do once their website is ready to be launched is to submit it to the search engine directories.
Submitting your site to the directories is a definitive step in your overall website promotion strategy, however it is not one of the 1st things that should be done if you are trying to get traffic. I know this goes against all that you have ever been told should happen when you get your website.
So to demystify that garbage and just get straight to the point I am going to tell you the fastest way to get traffic to your website, especially your brand new website. I am taking into consideration that you do not have an email list of 28,003 people. Because if that were the case you could just send an email and ask them to go there.
- The 1st thing you should do to get traffic is ping the site using pingomatic, pingoat, or pingler. Pinging is like raising the red flag on the mailbox to tell the mailman you have new mail to be sent. In this case, you are telling the weblog tracking sites that your site has been updated. Pretty much like food for the search engine spiders. This will begin a process of search engines picking up your content and noticing your site.
- Submit your RSS feed to the RSS Feed Directories (you can Google or Yahoo for “RSS Feed Directories”). Note! If your website is a blog the next step is to submit your RSS feed to blog directories. I recommend
Submitemnow as a free tool that will submit your feeds to over 100 sites in about an hour. - Create web 2.0 properties to support your new site using anchor links for specific keywords or phrases. These pages are what I call feeder pages to help promote my new site. These are so strong because they have many different ranking aspects that new pages just do not have. Simply because these pages already have rankings with the search engines it automatically gives your site strength when it is linked correctly with an anchor text.
- Social bookmark the web 2.0 site with the social bookmarking sites. Social bookmarking sites are powerful and their ranking should not be wasted. Social bookmarking sites include sites like Digg, Delicious,& Propeller to name a few.
- Ping the social book marks once you have bookmarked them. Since these sites will have a completely different url they can also be pinged.
So, there you have one of the fastest ways to get traffic to your website. Enjoy
